Raspberry variety of domestic selection "Yellow Giant" was bred by Professor V. Kichin by laboratory cloning of varieties «Ivanovskaya» and "Maroseyka". Raspberry trials lasted 12 years. In 2008, the variety was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation for the North-West region.

Variety advantages: disease resistance, palatability, hypoallergenicity, long-term fruiting.

Variety features

Shrub powerful, slightly sprawling. Forms a large number of shoots up to 2 meters high. The stems are straight, gray in color, with a slight wax coating, covered with green spikes along their entire length. First-year shoots – brown. The mother bush gives a lot of shoots, thinning pruning is needed during the season.

The leaves are medium in size, dark green. The leaf plate is wrinkled, with teeth along the edges. The flowers are large, plentiful, with long sepals.

Fruitsobtuse, large. The average weight of berries is 3.1 grams, although there are also real giants, weighing up to 8-10 grams. Ripe raspberry color – orange yellow. The taste is sweet with sourness characteristic of yellow raspberries. Tasting assessment – 4.2 points out of 5.

Purpose of the variety: Raspberry Yellow giant is suitable for fresh consumption, preparation of desserts, processing for the winter. Yellow fruits with tender pulp are not intended for transportation over long distances.

The yieldof the variety is high. On one lateral shoot, 15-20 large fruits ripen, and on one bush – up to 6 kg of commercial berries. 30 centners of raspberries are harvested per hectare.

The maturation period of the "Yellow Giant" – medium, extended. Raspberries ripen starting from mid-July, and give the harvest until September.

Immunity. The culture has increased resistance to diseases and insect pests. For prevention purposes, spring treatment with biological products is recommended.

Growing conditions. Raspberry variety Yellow giant is slightly winter hardy. Annual shoots require shelter under the snow.

The quality of the berries can be adversely affected by prolonged rains or prolonged drought. Therefore, raspberries are watered with an eye on the weather, moderately and regularly, avoiding moisture stagnation and swamping of plantings.
