Przehyba — Polish dessert variety of summer raspberries. Bred by breeders of the Research Institute of Horticulture of the Ministry of Agriculture of Poland, Jan Danek and Agnieszka Ozhel. The variety has been registered in the COBORU registry since 01.2016 under the number S 907.
Polish farmers started planting raspberries of this newest variety in 2015. On the Russian market, seedlings «Pshekhiba» became available in 2017.
The variety is suitable for amateur and industrial cultivation. Raspberries have proven themselves well when grown both in open and protected ground (in particular, in tunnels).
Varie Features
"Pshehiba" – a variety of early ripening, bears fruit on overwintered two-year-old shoots.
Raspberry flowering begins in May-June (depending on climatic conditions), passes amicably and abundantly. The flowers are large, white, form dense brushes. Berries ripen in bunches of 10-20
fruits, "blush" from spout to base.
Beginning of maturation:
- South of Russia – the first decade of June, in the open ground in the third decade, the collection begins.
- Middle band – berries ripen from the beginning of July.
- Siberia – second half of July.
"Pshehiba" differs in amicable ripening of fruits, which makes mechanized harvesting possible.
The variety produces even, one-dimensional fruits, intense red color with a glossy sheen. Fleshy, wide, elongated, cylindrical and obtuse in shape.
Raspberries have a delicate sweet aroma and dessert taste, not cloying, with a subtle sourness.
The berries are large and very large, the average weight – 9.7 gr. They can be poured up to a huge size of 12-14 grams, the average length is 3 & minus 5 cm.
Despite the juicy pulp, the berries are quite elastic with a strong elastic skin. The drupes are homogeneous, tightly linked to each other. Thanks to these properties, the berries do not crumble when harvested, do not rot after ripening on the bush, are excellent for transportation and storage, and can retain marketable characteristics for a long time.
Fruits «Pshehiba» versatile in their purpose: suitable for fresh consumption, direct sales in fresh markets, freezing, drying and preservation.
There is no doubt about the high yield of the variety: 20−35 t/ha; 1−1.4kg – from the escape. The yield from a bush depends on the number of shoots left on it. The stability and size of the crop are directly dependent on the applied agricultural technology and growing conditions.
Planting and care
"Pshehiba" resistant to major diseases, pests, freezing of buds on the stem. Differs in the checked high frost and drought resistance. Agricultural technology includes timely watering, pruning and top dressing.
Landing. Landing "Pshehiba" spring or autumn. Choose a site with neutral or slightly acidic soil, sunny, protected from drafts, then the raspberries begin to ripen earlier and gain more sugar. It is desirable that in winter the selected area be covered with a layer of snow, then the bushes will survive the frost better.
The variety is planted by the bush or tape method, leaving at least 70 cm between the bushes, in the row — up to 1.5-2 m. If the plantings are heavily thickened, air and moisture exchange is disturbed, due to which diseases can develop, the berry will be crushed and will be less sweet.
The Przehiba bush is growing, to support the shoots it is necessary to install trellises or supports, as well as regular cutting of excess stems and sanitary cleaning. For this reason, trench planting is preferable, it makes it easier to tie the shoots to supports or to a wire stretched in three rows, and it also simplifies the care of raspberries – weeding and top dressing.
Irrigation. To maintain high marketability, it is necessary to regularly provide plants with moisture. Most of all in the moisture of "Pshehib" needs in the spring, when it is gaining strength, as well as when the berries ripen and bear fruit. At the same time, it is important to ensure that the roots do not acidify and are not affected by the fungus. Frequency of watering in dry summer conditions: 1 time in 7-10 days.
The first watering is done in the hole, after which the roots of the plant are covered with earth, the soil around the bush is mulched. Be sure to remove weeds around the raspberries.
When growing raspberries on an industrial scale, drip irrigation is organized.
Feeding. The variety is responsive to organic fertilizers: cut weeds, cow dung, bird droppings are used. Organic matter is introduced into the planting hole or trench (at least 5 kg of humus per bush), mixed with fertile soil and a complex of mineral fertilizers. The first dressing is carried out as soon as the bushes begin to grow, the second – after flowering, the final — after harvest.
The mineral complexes that feed raspberries should be designed specifically for berry crops. They are made according to the scheme recommended by the manufacturer.
Pruning. When pruning raspberries, fruit-bearing shoots are shortened, thickening branches are removed (leave 7-8 per linear meter), and excess root shoots are removed. The shoots of seedlings, after planting, are cut to 15-20 cm.
Pshehiba – bears fruit on 2-year-old shoots, which are removed immediately after fruiting to develop replacement shoots. After winter, weak, frozen, broken shoots are removed. Successfully overwintered stems are cut to the first strong bud.
Preparing for winter. Before the onset of frost, the shoots are removed from the trellises and bent to the ground, so the raspberries can receive heat from the ground. Raspberries are covered with agrofiber, spruce branches, cardboard. In the spring, it is important to remove the shelter in time so that the shoots do not rot. In the southern regions of «Pshehib» does not need additional shelter.
