The late remontant blackberry cultivar Prime-Ark Traveler was bred at the University of Agriculture (Arkansas, USA) and tested in California. Patented in 2008
Various advantages: lack of thorns, two waves of fruiting, uniform berries, transportability, suitable for commercial cultivation. Among the shortcomings: average winter and drought resistance.
Characteristics of the variety
Shrub bramble type 1.7-2.3 m tall. Shoots erect, without thorns. Flowers are white, up to 5 cm in diameter. The foliage is bright green, compact, with a smooth plate and serrated edges.
Fruits round-elongated, large, average weight 6-8 grams. The color of ripe blackberries is black with a characteristic sheen. The pulp is dense, juicy. Taste – sweet with a fruity aftertaste, without sourness. The berries are convenient for picking and transporting.
Yield of blackberry Prime Ark Traveler – 3-5 kg per bush. Ripening terms – later. If grown as a remontant variety, it gives two waves of fruiting. First – in the third decade of July – early August (on the shoots of last year). Second – in the second half of August with a transition to autumn. When growing tutimer, as a regular variety, one full-fledged crop is harvested per season on annual shoots.
Immuneto rust, anthracnose. Low resistance to powdery mildew and white spot. Dangerous pests – spider mite, kidney moth, glass case and nutworm. Recommended preventive treatment of bushes, compliance with agricultural practices, regular inspection of the bushes.
Destination. The variety is intended for personal and commercial cultivation incl. on an industrial scale. Suitable for sale at the berry market, fresh consumption, preparations for the winter.
Growing conditions. Prime Ark Traveler Blackberry can be grown as a double fruiting and simultaneous fruiting variety. In the first case, the bushes are planted in a greenhouse. The plant is characterized by medium frost resistance, the maximum allowable low temperature is – 10-15 °C. The variety reacts to severe drought and heat above +28°C with a decrease in the quality of the berry, it becomes smaller and sour. Blackberries need to be watered regularly, & nbsp; shade from the scorching sun.
