Apple variety «Gornoaltaiskoe» bred by breeders of the Research Institute of Horticulture of Siberia. Lisavenko (Barnaul) in 1937 by hybridizing the frost-resistant "Ranetki purple"; and "Pepina saffron". In 1959, the variety was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation for the Northern, Northwestern, Volga-Vyatka and West Siberian regions.
Variety advantages: annual harvest, high winter hardiness, scab immunity, fruit versatility.
Characteristics of the variety
Tree medium-sized (3-3.5 m.), with a rounded, spreading, unthickened crown. The foliage is rounded with a pointed end, the leaf plate is gray-green, rough, pubescent below. The fruits are formed on the annulus and fruit twigs.
Fruits round-conical shape, ribbed with a small funnel. Apples are small, weighing 30-50 gr. Peel – smooth, yellow with a diffuse blush. Pulp – fine-grained, juicy, creamy. Taste – sweet and sour. Apples are prone to cracking in rainy weather. Purpose: universal.
Productivity«Gornoaltayskaya» apple trees average – 36 kg per tree. The tree bears fruit annually, starting from 4-5 years after planting.
Immuneto scab. Pests rarely start.
Growing conditions. Due to the reference frost resistance and tolerance of cold snaps, the Gorno-Altai apple tree is widespread in northern latitudes, cultivated in Siberia, Karelia, Primorye, and the Urals.
The variety is not self-pollinating, cross-pollination with apple trees blooming in the neighborhood is required for the formation of fruits.
