Perennial with narrow dark green leaves and single red flowers 1-1.5 cm in diameter. Carnation is photophilous, cold and drought resistant. Prefers fertile, non-acidic, loamy garden soil. Does not tolerate waterlogging and especially stagnant water. Responds well to fertilizing with mineral fertilizers. Seeds are sown for seedlings in March April or in open ground from May to August. Shoots appear on the 10-14th day.

This popular low-growing plant with very bright flowers is particularly well suited for filling gaps along the front edge of mixborders. Especially effective when planted in groups on dry soils.
