A perennial densely leafy plant with fragrant double and semi-double flowers up to 3 cm in diameter, with fringed-cut petals along the edge, on numerous flower-bearing stems, pleases not only with the beauty of flowers, but also with leaves: narrow-leaved, bluish from a wax coating, they do not lose their decorative effect even after flowering. Carnation is photophilous, cold and drought resistant. Prefers fertile, non-acidic, loamy garden soil. Does not tolerate waterlogging and especially stagnant water. Responds well to fertilizing with mineral fertilizers. Seeds for seedlings are sown in March - April or in open ground from May to the first decade of August. Shoots appear in 10-14 days.
This popular low-growing plant with very bright flowers is well suited for filling voids along the front edge of a mixborder. Especially effective when planted in groups on dry soils.
