Strawberry seedlings Florida Beauty

A new variety of remontant strawberry Florida Beauty® (Florida Beauty®) was bred in 2016 by University of Florida breeders (USA) in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (Australia). It is considered an improved version of the Florida Fortuna variety in terms of yield and taste.

The seedlings of this strawberry reached the domestic market in 2019.

Variety features

Plant. Florida Beauty shrubs are semi-spreading, compact, medium height, with rounded dark green leaves and increased mustache formation. Peduncles give abundant ovaries, bend to the ground under the weight of fruits.

Fruits conical in shape with a pronounced neck, large. The average weight of berries is 25-35 gr., the maximum – 50 gr. Strawberries do not shrink and do not lose their presentation throughout the season. The skin of a ripe berry is a uniform raspberry-red color with a glossy sheen. Pulp – juicy, dense, no crunch, sweet BRIX sugar content – 8 units The aroma is pronounced strawberry.

PurposeFlorida Beauty – universal. Strawberries are suitable for fresh consumption, preparation of desserts, processing into jams, preserves, fruit drinks. Due to its high keeping quality, long-term storage, and transportability of berries, the Beauty Forida variety is considered a promising commercial variety for cultivation for sale. Picked strawberries do not lose their commercial properties, taste and appearance, up to 6-7 days (in a cool room).

Productivity. Up to 1.5 kg of berries are harvested from one bush of Florida Beauty per season. The variety gives a harvest in 3-4 waves (in the southern regions and greenhouses). The first ripe berries appear in the second half of June and ripen until mid-autumn. In the open ground of the northern latitudes, strawberries do not have time to ripen before the cold weather, the crop is harvested in two or three waves.

Immunityto root rot, phytosporosis. Resistance to powdery mildew, anthracosis. Susceptibility to berry rot. The plant can be attacked by aphids, spider mites, slugs, weevils. The variety needs preventive treatments, which are carried out in the spring before the formation of berries.

Growing conditions

According to the originators, Florida Beauty strawberries have good winter hardiness. However, its adaptability to various climatic conditions of the Russian regions is poorly understood due to the novelty of the variety. Also, the culture performed well in conditions of high humidity and rainy summer.

Southern latitudes with warm long summers are most suitable for growing strawberries in open ground. In order to achieve high yields and maximum taste in the northern latitudes, strawberries are planted in the shelter of booths and greenhouses.
