Apple Golden Delicious

Golden Delicious – an unusual hybrid apple-pear variety, originally from the USA, was discovered at the end of the 19th century by an American farmer from West Virginia A. Mullins. According to one version, the seedling turned out by accident, as a result of cross-pollination of the Grimes Golden and Golden Reinette varieties.

Later, the new culture spread throughout the American States, was brought to Europe and Russia. In the State Sort Register of the USSR, the apple-pear tree has been listed since 1965. Recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus, Central and Lower Volga regions, as well as in the Kaliningrad region.

In 1995, the Golden Delicious pear-apple tree became the official symbol of the state of Virginia.

Advantages: rare taste, presentation of fruits, consistently high yields.

Characteristics of the variety

Treesmall, up to 3 m in height, with a rounded or wide pyramidal dense crown. Shoots curved, medium thickness. Foliage – rich green in color, oval with a wide base and a sharp tip. The flowers are pinkish white. Fruiting – on annelids, fruit twigs, growth ends.

Fruitsround-conical shape, slightly ribbed, large. Weight – 140-180 gr. The skin of ripe pears is golden yellow, rough with convex skin dots and strokes. Pulp – light yellow, juicy with hints of duchesse. Taste – sweet, dessert.

Yields«Golden Delicious» high – about 80 kg of fruits are harvested from one adult tree. Fruiting is stable annual, begins at 2-3 years of planting. Ripening terms – later. The harvest is taken in mid-October. In a cool place, harvested pear apples are stored until May.

Variety Assignment– universal. Pears can be consumed fresh, prepared for the winter.

Immunity. The tree has polygenic resistance to powdery mildew. It is affected by scab. Recommended spring preventive treatments and regular inspection of the garden during the summer.

Growing conditions. The frost resistance of the variety is low. In regions with frosty winters and late return frosts, trees often freeze to death. The most suitable regions for growing – Caucasus, South, central Russia.
