Thuja Globosa (Thuja occidentalis Globosa) — evergreen dwarf shrub of the cypress family with a spherical crown. Since 1874, it began to be massively grown and used in landscape design.
Variety advantages: decorative effect, compactness, frost resistance.
Appearance. Compact shrub, up to 1 meter in height, the annual growth of which is 5 cm. Shoots – flat, growing upwards, often crossing. Crown – dense, spherical, 80-100 cm in diameter. In order for the bush to retain the shape of a ball, it must be lightly sheared twice a year.
Needle – dense, scaly, dark green, turning brown in winter. Cones – brown, small, 1 cm long.
The life expectancy of thuja – up to 200 years.
Destination. Most often, dwarf thujas are used to decorate alpine slides, small gardens, household plots, areas adjacent to cafes, office buildings, etc. Balconies, verandas, roofs, gazebos are decorated with spherical bushes planted in tubs.
Thuja look good alone and in groups, as well as surrounded by flowers.
Growing conditions. Thuja Globoza as a whole is not picky about growing conditions, does not require complex care, and tolerates winter frosts well. The species is suitable for cultivation in almost all Russian regions.
It is important to remember that when planting a plant in a heavily shaded area, the thuja crown loses its spherical shape and stretches in length in search of sunlight.
