Mugus (Pinus mugo mughus) – one of the forms of mountain pine, which, thanks to plastic wood, is able to acquire various decorative forms. It was cultivated in 1779, after which it became widely used in landscape design. The homeland of the subspecies are the Balkans and the Eastern Alps. Most often found in the upper mountain belt.

Dignity of the variety: unusual appearance, compact size, unpretentiousness.

Treeshort, from 2 to 10 meters, slow growing. It grows by 10-12 cm per year. Crown – lush pyramidal, 3-4 m wide. The trunk and lateral branches are twisted. They are able to acquire various bends that affect the appearance of the entire tree. Bark – dense, brown. Root – strong, powerful. Life expectancy up to 1000 years.

Pine needles fragrant, bright green. Needles up to 5 cm in length, collected in bundles of 2 pieces.

Budsconical, golden. Appear on a 7-year-old tree.

Destination. Thanks to the ability to take on bizarre shapes, the Mugus pine has become a favorite of landscape designers and gardeners seeking to decorate their home gardens.

Pine trees are planted along the alleys and borders, they are used to create hedges, decorate the entrance to the house. Mugus goes well in compositions with other conifers: junipers and firs, as well as with ornamental crops, hydrangeas, roses, cereal perennials.

Immunity. The species has strong immunity, rarely affected by pests.

Growing conditions. Mugus pine tolerates drought and severe frosts. It takes root well in the central, middle and southern strip of Russia, as well as in the Urals and Siberia. It is undemanding to the composition and fertility of the soil, it can grow in mountainous areas.
