The tomato variety Eagle's Beak was bred by a group of Novosibirsk breeders under the guidance of & nbsp; V.N. Dederko, patented and included in the State Sort Register of Russia in 2005. The variety is adapted for cultivation in open ground in most Russian & nbsp; regions. In the northern latitudes, it takes root better under the film.

Variety advantages: large-fruited, resistance to cold and temperature extremes, immunity to fungal diseases, transportability.

Characteristics of the variety

Plantindeterminate, 1.2-1.8 m high, sprawling. The stems are thin, need a garter. The leaves are large, ordinary shape. The first inflorescence is formed over the 10th leaf, the subsequent — every three. Depending on climatic conditions, 3-8 fruit clusters can form on a bush per season.

Fruits large, average weight 300-500 gr. Giants – 600-1000 gr., found in the first phase of harvesting. The shape of the tomatoes resembles the famous "Bull's Heart", except for the curved spout, similar to an eagle's beak, hence the name of the variety.

The color of ripe tomatoes – crimson. Pulp – meaty, juicy, sweet. Tasting assessment – 5 points out of 5. Peel – elastic, dense, does not crack. Harvested mature fruits of "Eagle's beak" stored for more than a week and endure transportation.

Variety purpose: salad. Tomatoes are suitable for fresh consumption, cold appetizers, first and second courses, lecho, ketchup, tomato paste and juice. For pickling, tomatoes are not used because of their large size.

Fruit deficiency: green shoulders.

Yield "Eagle's Beak" – 10.5-14.4 kg / m², is considered a good indicator for a large-fruited variety. A variety of medium ripening, the first ripe tomatoes appear on the 100th day after germination. Fruiting – undulating, the crop ripens throughout the second half of summer, until early autumn. The cathedral takes place in 2-3 stages. In a state of technical ripeness (brown, light pink), the fruits ripen perfectly outside the branches.

Immunity. "Eagle's beak" resistant to most fungal and viral diseases, but prone to late blight. An outbreak of the latter will help prevent preventive spraying with special preparations. It is also worth taking care of repelling insects.

Growing conditions

Like other Siberian varieties, the "Eagle's Beak" tomato tolerates cold and temperature fluctuations. Most often it is grown outdoors.

  • Seedlings are planted at the end of May – early June, when the soil warms up and stable warm weather sets in. If there is a risk of returning frosts, seedlings are covered at night.
  • The soil on the site is prepared 3-4 weeks before planting – spread humus, dig up, loosen.
  • Holes in rows are dug at a distance of 50 cm from each other. At the bottom of each lay 1 tbsp. phosphorus-potassium fertilizer.
  • Eagle's Beak Stems need a garter. The most common way is trellis. For this, plants are planted in a row, at the ends of which supports are driven in and the wire is pulled.
  • The bushes are formed into 2-3 stems. Starting from July, every 10 days, extra stepchildren and leaves on the lower tier are removed. As the plantings thicken on all tiers, the foliage is partially cut off so that the ovaries and fruits receive more sunlight.
  • A large-fruited variety needs abundant watering, at least once a week (depending on weather conditions).
  • Top dressing is carried out at least 3-4 times per season. In the first half of summer – watered with infusion of mullein or grass, in the second – fertilize with mineral compounds for tomatoes.

Seedling selection

Before you buy Eagle's Beak tomato seedlings, inspect them carefully.

A quality healthy seedling:

  • Shrubs – no more than 30 cm high, branched. The stem is strong, but not thick (the diameter of a regular pencil).
  • Leaves – few (6-8 pcs.), whole, elastic, raised up. No wrinkling, yellowing, brown or black spots.
  • Roots – shaped, moist, undamaged.
  • The color of the seedlings is rich green. Pale, weak stems and leaves indicate a lack of light when growing seedlings.
  • Age for landing at a permanent place – 55-60 days.

Beware of fakes and diseased planting material! Buy seedlings of tomatoes "Eagle's beak" in nurseries and specialized stores.
