Tomato Batyanya

The tomato variety Batyanya was bred by Siberian breeders Vladimir Dederko and Olga Postnikova. In 2008, the State Selection Commission of the Russian Federation included "Batyanya" to the register of varieties approved for cultivation under film cover and in open ground on the territory of personal subsidiary farms throughout Russia.

Variety advantages: early ripening, large-fruitedness, endurance, adaptability to the Siberian climate, fruit taste.

Characteristics of the variety

Plant indeterminate. In the open ground, the stems grow up to 1.2-1.5 m; in greenhouses – up to 2.2 m. Garters for supports require not only stems, but also fruit brushes. The foliage is dark green, large. Ovaries – numerous. Inflorescences – simple. In one bunch, 3-6 fruits are formed.

Fruits regular heart-shaped, large, medium weight – 200-250 gr., maximum – up to 500-700 gr. ("giants" are formed on the lower hands). Peel – raspberry color, smooth, easy to separate from the pink flesh. Consistency of tomato – fleshy, sugary, juicy, low in seeds. The taste is sweet, without sourness.

The weak point of the variety  – low preservation and keeping quality of fruits. Tomatoes plucked from the bush soften quickly, so it is better to use them immediately or put them in for processing. From tomatoes «Batyanya» you get delicious salads, sauces, tomato paste, lecho.

The yield of marketable fruits is stable (even under adverse weather conditions). According to the State Sortsreestr, it is – from 2 kg/m². According to gardeners, with proper agricultural technology in a greenhouse, you can collect up to 6-10 kg / m² fruits. Tomatoes begin to ripen at 90-95 days from the moment the entrances appear. At the same time, the fruiting period is extended – "Father" gives the harvest until late autumn.

Immunity. The variety is resistant to most diseases and pests. The risk of infection occurs when the planting is overcrowded.

Growing conditions.

Initially, the variety «Batyanya» was created for Siberia – hardy to cold, temperature extremes, short daylight hours. Gives a full harvest in almost any Russian region. In the southern latitudes, tomato can be grown in open ground, in the northern – greenhouses recommended.

• Seedlings "Batyan" planted in warm soil – at least up to +12°C to a depth of 10-15 cm. Night air temperature should not fall below +14-16°C. With the threat of return frosts, young bushes cover for the night.
• Choose a sunny, windless, well-drained site with fertile light soil. Poor soil is enriched with humus, compost, wood ash, fertilizers with potassium and phosphorus are added.
• Scheme of landing – 50 x 40 cm, 3-4 plants per 1 m2. To increase the yield, 1-3 stems are formed on the bush.
• Irrigation – warm water, moderate, once a week. With an excess of moisture, the fruits may crack.
• After watering, the soil around the bushes is loosened and mulched, weeds are removed.
• Feeding: four times a season, mineral and organic compositions alternate.
• Bathyani bushes they branch strongly, so they regularly pinch lateral branches. A month before the end of the season, the tops of the plants are cut off so that the fruits remaining on the bushes have time to ripen

Seedling selection

Before you buy seedlings of Batyanya tomatoes, carefully inspect them.

A quality healthy seedling:

• Shrubs – no more than 30 cm high, branched. The stem is strong, but not thick (the diameter of a regular pencil).
• Leaves – few (7-12 pcs.), whole, elastic, raised up. No wrinkling, yellowing, brown or black spots.
• Roots – shaped, moist, undamaged.
• The color of the seedlings is rich green. Pale, weak stems and leaves indicate a lack of light when growing seedlings.
• Age for landing in a permanent place is 50-55 days.
