The raspberry variety Caramelka was bred by Nizhny Novgorod breeders. In 2016, it was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation with permission to grow in almost all Russian regions. The originator of the variety is Shiblev V.A., known from the School Garden nursery.
Variety advantages: high yield, two harvests per season, frost resistance, medium early ripening, the possibility of mechanical harvest.
Variety Features
Plantupright, spiny. Spikes are located along the entire length of the stems. Annual shoots purple, biennial – brown with a wax coating. The foliage is small, slightly wrinkled. Blade with pointed teeth, slightly twisted. Leaves and fruit-bearing twigs are slightly pubescent.
Fruits wide conical, not very large. The average weight of berries in the harvest – 3.8-4 gr., maximum – 8 grams. The skin of ripe raspberries is light red, shiny. Pulp – sweet, but not cloying, fragrant. Tasting score - 4.6 points out of 5.
Purpose: variety suitable for fresh consumption, canning, sale.
ProductivityHigh caramel – 5 kg per bush; 112 c. per hectare. Ripening terms – mid-early, the first ripe berries appear in mid-July.
Immunity. Resistance to diseases and pests, as in standard varieties. Prevention of purple spotting, anthracnose, septoria is required.
Growing conditions. Raspberry Caramel is whimsical in care. The drought resistance and heat tolerance of the variety are average; during dry periods, the plant needs regular abundant watering.
Gardeners note the high frost resistance of Karamelka, which makes it possible to grow it in the Siberian climate. However, the originators recommend cultivating the variety as non-repairable in cold regions, i.e. collect one full-fledged crop in the middle of summer, and completely mow the aerial part of the bush for the winter.
