Radzieva – an ultra-early raspberry variety of Polish selection, obtained by crossing the raspberries of Lyachka, Polan, Molling Promis, and named after Mount Radziyeva in the Carpathians. In 2010, the variety was registered in the register of fruit crops in Poland.
First of all, "Radziev" was bred for the purpose of commercial cultivation on an industrial scale. Therefore, in addition to large-fruitedness, sweetness and juiciness, its fruits are distinguished by increased keeping quality and transportability.
Varie Features
The "Radziev" bush gives a lot of young shoots, so there are no problems with its reproduction. Raspberry shoots are powerful, thickened with short and soft spines. The stems are erect, the leaves are oval light green.
The ripening of berries begins with the advent of June. This variety – one of the earliest. When most varieties are still blooming, "Radzieva" already beginning to bear fruit even in open ground. For earlier and more abundant harvests, raspberries are planted in tunnels or greenhouses. Fruiting varieties – extended, completed by early October.
The yield of the variety is average – 3-4 kg, maximum – up to 6 kg per bush.
The fruits of Radziyeva are large (weight up to 7 gr.), bright red, dense, juicy, with a dessert taste. The berries fit snugly to the stalk, do not deteriorate if not harvested in time. Suitable for fresh consumption, freezing, all types of preservation, both at home and on an industrial scale. Due to its density and tenacity of the knuckles «Radziev» always reaches the end consumer, retaining its taste and presentation.
Planting and care
The variety needs good care, including timely fertilization, regular watering, thinning, shelter for the winter (with the exception of the southern regions of the country).
Landing. In central Russia, Siberia, the Urals, raspberries «Radziev» planted in the spring so that the culture has time to develop during the season.
In the south – in autumn, shortly before the first frosts, because the seedlings calmly endure the warm southern winters.
In commercial production, the planting density of raspberries is up to 8 shoots per meter. On a personal plot, a significantly greater distance is left between the shoots.
The soil at the landing site should be fertile, loose and well moistened. It is best to place seedlings in a greenhouse for the first time.
Planting pits are fertilized with organic matter: manure, humus, compost; mineral fertilizers, ash. A year after planting, the plants are again plentifully fed.
Irrigation. "Radziev" loves moisture, while the root system of the variety is superficial and is not able to extract moisture from deep soils.
Raspberries are watered before flowering and during fruit development. In greenhouses, drip irrigation is often used, this does not allow the plants to dry out and does not overmoisten the soil. Since excessive moisture can rot the root system.
If it is not possible to regularly water the raspberries, the planting is well mulched to retain moisture and avoid overheating of the root system.
Cutting. Raspberry gives dense shoots and needs timely pruning, which contributes to a high yield of large berries, reduces the risk of plant diseases. Plantings are thinned out in autumn, spring – dry and frozen shoots are cut.
Feeding. Fertilize raspberries begin in early spring – they are fed with nitrogen, natural organic matter (diluted chicken manure, mullein) and mineral fertilizers. To avoid burns of the root system and ensure the supply of nutrients, raspberries are thoroughly shed after feeding.
Before flowering, plants are fertilized with potassium salt and superphosphate, which promote fruit set and improve the quality of berries. After feeding, raspberries are mulched with hay, sawdust or peat. When fruiting, raspberries are shed with natural green fertilizers diluted in water 1:10. After harvesting, complex top dressings are used (nitrogen-free).
Preparing for winter. Variety "Radziev" moderately winter hardy. In Siberia and central Russia, raspberries need shelter for the winter. If the plant is planted in open ground, it is covered with a layer of mulch, spruce branches or agrofibre. Then sprinkled with snow. In regions with warm winters, this procedure is usually not necessary.
