Apple Tree Cherished

The semi-cultivated apple-tree cultivar Zavetnoye was bred at the Research Institute of Horticulture of Siberia. M.A. Lisavenko (Barrnaul) by crossing varieties Melba and Autumn joy. Included in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 1995 with permission to grow in Western and Eastern Siberia.

Variety advantages: high yield, long keeping quality of fruits – up to 150 days, self-healing

Characteristics of the variety

Treeshort, up to 3-3.5 meters, with a compact, slightly thickened crown. The bark on the trunk and branches is dark brown. Shoots are slightly pubescent. The foliage is medium-sized, concave-oblong, leaf plate – corrugated with fine-grained edges. Type of fruiting mixed – on rings and spears. Flowering is plentiful.

Fruits of the correct flat-round shape. Average weight – 40-65 gr. The skin of a ripe apple is whitish-yellow in color with a pink blush that is blurred over most of the fruit. Subcutaneous points are few, hardly noticeable. Pulp – white, juicy. The taste is sweet and sour with a pronounced fruity aroma. Tasting assessment – 4.5 points out of 5.

Variety Assignment – universal. Suitable for fresh consumption, preparation of desserts, compotes, processing into jams, marmalade, etc. Apples tolerate transportation well and are stored for a long time (up to 5 months).

Yield apple tree «Zavetnoe» – 107 centners per hectare, 18-20 kg per tree. Harvest is annual, from season 4-5. Fruit picking takes place at the stage of technical maturity, in the second half of September – early October. Ripening of apples – friendly. In hot summers, the first ripe fruits may appear as early as the end of August.

Immunity. Due to the weak thickening, the crown is evenly illuminated by the sun and well ventilated, so the variety practically does not suffer from scab and other fungal diseases. The tree needs protection from codling moth. Preventive treatment is carried out in the spring before flowering.

Growing conditions. Apple tree "Treasured" refers to medium-hardy varieties (up to -30 ° C) with good self-healing ability. Suitable for growing in «cold» regions. To reduce the risk of trees freezing in winter, an artificial barrier is erected to prevent snow blowing from the site.

In order for apple tree seedlings to take root and grow stronger before the autumn cold, they are planted in Siberia and the Urals at the end of spring – early summer, after the threat of frost has passed and the air and soil have warmed up sufficiently. In the first winter, young trees are wrapped up. 

Variety «Treasured» – self-fertile. For cross-pollination, an apple tree is planted next to other varieties that bloom at the same time.

Preparations
