Decorative and deciduous perennial plant, grown as an annual in Siberian conditions. Stems branched, straight, hollow, dark red. The leaves are large, bronze, ornamental, 5-7-lobed, have a wax coating. The flowers are small, inconspicuous, collected in inflorescences, and male flowers are placed in the upper part, and at the bottom – female. Fruit – oval-spherical box, up to 3 cm in diameter, covered with spines.

Sown for seedlings in March-April in separate pots. For better seed germination, the shell should be broken. Shoots appear in 10-14 days. The optimum temperature for seedlings is 18-20 ° C. Seedlings are planted in a permanent place after the end of spring frosts.

Grows better and more ornamental in sunny, warm and moist places with deeply cultivated, loose nutrient soil. Recommended for small groups, single plantings and as a backdrop for flowering plants. Ideal for sheltering household, outbuildings and hedges.
