The newest variety of remontant raspberries of domestic selection, the "Pokhvalinka" variety, was bred by breeders from Nizhny Novgorod: father and son – Vladimir and Ilya Shiblev. In 2019, "Praise" was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation, and raspberry seedlings went on sale.
First of all, the variety impresses with its very large size and rich taste of berries. Among other advantages: high yield, frost resistance, resistance to diseases and pests.
Raspberry "Pokhvalinka" recommended for cultivation throughout Russia. Suitable for cultivation, both in private gardening and on an industrial scale.
Varie Features
Pokhvalinka bushes powerful, medium height 1.3-1.5 m, medium sprawling. Mostly the lower part of the stems is studded, so the thorns do not cause inconvenience when harvesting. The shoots are erect, strong, however, raspberries need support. The leaves are bright green, large, slightly pubescent. The flowers are white, large.
The fruits of "Praise" truly worthy of praise. They are very large – the average weight declared in the state register is 6.4 – 9 gr., however, subject to agricultural technology, the testers of the variety demonstrated berries weighing up to 16-20 gr. In length, the fruits reach 5 cm. The shape of the raspberry is elongated-conical, the color is ruby red, the flesh is juicy, sweet, with a slight sourness and a pronounced raspberry aroma.
In addition, "Praise" demonstrates excellent keeping quality and transportability. Berries do not crumble and do not flow, suitable for mechanized harvesting. Therefore, the variety is suitable for commercial cultivation, is sold in fresh markets, frozen, canned.
"Praise" refers to mid-season varieties. The first summer harvest occurs in the middle of summer, the specific dates depend on climatic conditions. Despite the fact that the producers claim the variety has remontant properties, in fact, most gardeners prefer to grow it as a summer variety, i.e. harvest one voluminous crop of berries. In autumn, all shoots are cut at the root. The fruits of the second, autumn, harvest wave are noticeably smaller, and raspberries do not have time to give up the entire berry before the onset of cold weather (except for the southern regions).
The yield of "Pokhvalinka", starting from the second year, is quite high. It is characterized by the following numbers: up to 25-30 berries on one shoot, ripens at the same time; up to 6-10 kg of raspberries – gives 1 bush with the right agricultural technology, 15-20 tons of products are harvested from 1 ha.
Planting and care. Variety "Pokhvalinka" perfectly adapted to the climatic conditions of different latitudes, it is characterized by such characteristics as drought and frost resistance (up to -30 ° C), as well as resistance to autumn return frosts up to – 5 ° C (the foliage may freeze slightly, while the berries will not suffer ). The variety can be grown in open ground conditions. Raspberries also have good immunity to diseases and pests of fruit and berry crops.
In general, raspberries of this variety do not need exorbitant attention. However, agricultural technicians recommend following simple tips so that your "Praise" proved to be 100%.
Selection of seedlings. When purchasing planting material, pay attention to its quality. Healthy raspberry seedlings "Pokhvalinka" do not have signs of dryness, spots and growths. Under the woody shell of the shoot, green flesh is visible. The root system is well developed, moist. The thickness of the root neck should be about 1 cm, the length of the roots – 15 cm.
Attention! Beware of fakes. Due to the novelty of the variety and the high quality characteristics of the berries, the seedlings of "Pokhvalinka" are not cheap. By purchasing them from individuals or unverified sellers, you risk getting planting material from another raspberry. To avoid forgery, buy seedlings in specialized nurseries or well-established agricultural firms.
Choosing a location. The variety passed the tests with frost, heat and strong wind. But it is best to choose a well-lit area without drafts for planting. Shaded places should also be avoided, the yield of raspberries growing in the shade is noticeably reduced. "Praise" will thrive and bear fruit in light, breathable, fertile soils, with neutral or weak acidity (5.8 — 6.3 pH). In this regard, chernozem or loamy soil is perfect.
For raspberries, lowlands and easily swampy places, as well as areas where rainwater stagnates, are dangerous. Groundwater must lie at a depth of at least 1.5 meters from the surface of the earth. Excessive hills and slopes – also a bad option for the formation of raspberries.
Good predecessors in the area for "Pokhvalinka" – legumes and cereals. Bad – potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants.
Planting. Mid-autumn (October), or early spring (immediately after the snow melts) – the optimal time for landing "Pokhvalinka".
The variety is planted in one of the traditional ways – bush or tape. In the first option, for each bush, a separate hole is dug 40 cm deep and 40 cm in diameter. Between the pits, gaps of 70-100 cm are left in order to further simplify the care and picking of berries. With the tape method, trenches are dug, 50 cm deep. 0.5 m., and between the rows – 1.5 – 2.0 m
