Black Gem – the newest variety of thornless remontant blackberry of American selection (Arkansas).  The first seedlings appeared on the world agricultural market in & nbsp; 2017.

Variety advantages: self-pollination, lack of thorns, good productivity, winter hardiness, two fruiting waves per season.

Characteristics of the variety

Shrub compact, upright (kumanik). Shoots without thorns, up to 1.5-2 m high, which greatly facilitates plant care and harvesting. The leaves are light green, flowers – white.

Fruitsoval, large – average weight 6-8 gr. Individual berries can reach 20-25 grams. The color of a ripe blackberry is black with a glossy sheen. Pulp – tender, juicy. Taste – dessert.

YieldsBlack Jam  5-7 kg of blackberries from a bush, which is considered a good indicator for a "tutimer". Fruiting – continuous, until the first cold weather. The first wave of berries ripens in June on the shoots of the second year, the second – in August at the first years.

Purpose of berries– fresh consumption, preparation of desserts, pastries, preparations for the winter.

Growing conditions. As a remontant variety, Black Jam has increased winter hardiness and the genetic ability to adapt to the climatic conditions of the region in which it grows. So the agricultural technicians of the southern part of Russia declare the successful wintering of bushes without shelter. More skeptical in this matter are their colleagues from the Urals, who recommend covering the bushes for the winter. In regions with an unstable climate and areas of risky farming, the variety is grown mainly in containers and in protected ground.

Black Gem Blackberries can be grown as non-repairable and produce one full early harvest per summer. To do this, at the end of the season, the entire aerial part of the plant is cut off, leaving no stumps, thereby preventing the bush from freezing.
