The blackcurrant variety Selechenskaya was bred at the Lyupin Research Institute by crossing seedlings  currant Dove and hybrid form 32-77 (Bredthorpe). Variety author: A. Astakhov. "Selechenskaya" was accepted for state variety testing in 1989. Included in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 1993 with permission to grow in the North-Western, Central, Central Black Earth, Middle Volga, West and East Siberian regions.

Variety advantages: winter and drought resistance, immunity to powdery mildew, large tasty berries.

Variety features

Plant medium height. The bush is dense, slightly sprawling. Shoots of olive color, straight, flexible, with close internodes. Lateral buds are pink, large, deviated from the stems. The leaf plate is 5-lobed, matte, convex, leathery with blunt teeth. Fruit clusters of medium length (8-12 flowers) Pale lilac flowers, hairless.

Fruitsround, large. The average weight of berries is 1.7 - 3.3 gr., the maximum – up to 5 grams. Ripe currant peel – black, shiny, dense. Pulp – juicy, olive. The taste of berries is excellent – sweet with sourness, fragrant. Tasting score - 4.7 points out of 5.

Separation of berries dry, can be transported. Purpose of the variety: universal.

Productivity commodity – 1.5-2.8 kg per bush, 99 centners/ha. Berries ripen early (end of June) and amicably. The crop is harvested in one go.

Immune to powdery mildew. Medium resistance to anthracnose and bud mites.

Growing conditions. Currant Selechenskaya belongs to the varieties of intensive type, for a high yield, it needs fertile soil and proper agricultural technology. Due to its resistance to low temperatures and return frosts, currants can be grown outdoors even in regions with a sharply continental climate.
