Apple tree Wonderful

Variety of dwarf apple tree "Wonderful" bred by breeders of the Ural Agricultural Research Institute Mikhail and Nina Mazunin. In 2001, the apple tree was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation for the Ural region.

Advantages: superdwarf variety, stable yield, self-fertility.

Characteristics of the variety

Tree like a superdwarf, grows up to 1.5 m in height. The root system is fibrous, with a high growth rate, the main root is absent. The trunk is small, on a scion 8-12 cm, on a dwarf tree – up to 10 cm. The branches of the apple tree are arched, spread out to the sides, bending down under the weight of the fruit. The crown is voluminous, up to 3 m wide. The leaves are oval, wide, up to 7 cm in length. The leaf plate is glossy, green in color with small light stripes.

Fruitsflat-round shape, large, weighing 120-160 gr. Under good growing conditions, apples can reach a weight of 200 grams. The skin is thin, yellowish-green in color with a red blush on the sunny side. Pulp – juicy, dense, crunchy when biting. Tasting assessment – 4.9 points out of 5.

Fruits of the "Wonderful" have good transportability, keeping quality, long shelf life. At room temperature, apples are stored for up to one month, in the refrigerator or cellar – until October.

Variety assignment universal – fresh consumption, cooking, preparations.

Yield «Wonderful» stable, 354 centners per hectare, up to 85 kg per tree. Fruiting begins in the 3rd year of growth and reaches a maximum by the 5-7th year. With a strong thickening of the crown and a lack of moisture, yields may decrease. The ripening period of apples is late summer, the collection takes place in August.

Immunity. Good resistance to fungal infections, scab, bacteriosis, powdery mildew, fruit rot. Prophylactic treatment from parasites is necessary – scale insects, bark beetles, aphids, and timely sanitary cleaning of fallen leaves and branches.

Growing conditions. Apple tree "Wonderful" grows well and bears fruit in the Urals, Moscow region, North-West Russia. In general, the variety tolerates frost well (up to – 40 ° C) and is able to withstand spring frosts. Nevertheless, when growing a variety in the Siberian region, it is recommended to insulate the near-stem circle and tree trunk in case of a little snowy winter.

Variety «Wonderful» – self-pollinating, it does not need apple pollinators to form a crop. But, in order to get the maximum number of ovaries, you can plant other Ural dwarf varieties nearby.
