Crimean pine / Pallas (Pinus nigra subsp. pallasiana) — subspecies of black pine (Pinus nigra), grows in the Crimea and the south of the Caucasus. The second name was given by the name of academician Peter Pallas, who brought pine seeds to England in 1790. It is found not only in the wild, but also in the parks of the Crimea.

Tree tall, medium height – 20-30 meters, maximum 45 m. It grows by 35 & ndash; 40 cm per year. The needles of the Crimean pine are prickly, dense, dark green in color. The needles are slightly curved, 8-12 cm long, 1.6-2 mm thick.

Buds brown, ovoid-conical. Length 5-10 cm, diameter 4.5-6 cm. Arranged singly on branches, rarely – bundles. Seeds 5-7 mm, dark gray or black with spots.

Growing conditions. Due to its southern origin, Crimean pine has relative frost resistance up to –20…–25°C. If seedlings from the south are planted in areas with a continental climate, they will die in the very first winter.
