Seed Potato Sappho

"Sapho" – mid-early high-yielding variety of Siberian table potatoes. Bred by scientists of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2004, the variety was included in the State Register for the West Siberian region. Recommended for cultivation in the Urals and the Far East, in Western and Eastern Siberia.

Varie Features

Plantsemi-erect, leaf type. Leaves are medium in size with wavy edges. Corollas of flowers are large, without a bluish color.

Tubers – oval shape with small eyes. The peel is light beige, the pulp – creamy, delicious. Starch content: 12-17%. Keeping quality: 82%. Commercial quality: 96%.

Yield «Safo» on average – 183-395 centners per hectare, maximum – 536 c. The number of tubers in the bush is 7-11 pcs. Mass of marketable potatoes - 110-230 gr. Potatoes ripen 80-90 days after planting.

Planting and care

For the variety «Safo» the standard planting scheme and the traditional agricultural technique for growing potatoes are applicable.

Terms. Seed potatoes are planted in open ground, mainly in May, during the period of bud break on birch trees. By this time, the ground, as a rule, warms up well and is ready for planting. The temperature of the soil should not be lower than +8°C.

Soil. For a potato plantation, fertile, light loamy or sandy soils, areas after leguminous and winter crops, annuals and perennials, flax, lupine are suitable.

Planning chart. Potatoes are planted in rows in holes deep & nbsp; 8-10 cm, at a distance of 35 cm from each other. Between the rows observe the beat – 50-60 cm. Agricultural technicians recommend: before planting, pour a handful of wood ash onto the bottom of the hole, the latter will fertilize the soil and scare away the wireworm.

Loosening. The land on the plantation is maintained in a loose state. The first time it is loosened on the 10-11th day after the emergence of seedlings. Then every time after rains and waterings, to break the crust formed on the surface of the soil. Remove weeds.

Hilling potatoes is carried out 2 times per season: when the tops reach a height of 15 and 25 cm.

Feeding. Organic fertilizers diluted in water with manure and bird droppings are applied to the soil immediately before planting. During the growing season, ammonium nitrate, carbamide, nitrophoska are added. During flowering – superphosphate and potassium salt.

Diseases and pests. Potato variety "Safo" resistant to cancer pathogen, golden cyst nematode, wrinkled and striped mosaic, leaf curl.
