Ruben (Ruben) – a winter-hardy blackcurrant variety of early ripening was bred by Polish breeders by crossing Ben Lomond and Belarusian Sweet.
Variety advantages: pleasant taste, unpretentiousness to growing conditions, stable yield.
Variety features
Shrub medium-sized, 1.5-2 m high, sprawling. During the fruiting period, the shoots bend under the weight of the berries. The foliage is medium-sized, 5-lobed, dark green, very fragrant. The flowers are medium in size, light green in color with pinkish strokes on the petals, collected in inflorescences.
Fruitsround shape 1-1.5 cm in diameter, weighing 3-6 g. Currant skin is dense, shiny, rich black. Pulp – juicy, aromatic. Taste – balanced, sweet with sour notes.
The berry tolerates transportation well, does not burst and does not flow when harvested. Suitable for mechanized harvesting.
Purpose of the variety: fresh consumption, preparation of jams, jams, fruit drinks, freezing.
Productivity currant "Ruben" stable from the 2nd year of planting. On average, 3-3.5 kg of berries are harvested from a bush per season. New shoots bear fruit for 5-7 years, after which they are pruned. The ripening period of the variety – mid-early, first half of July.
Immuneto American powdery mildew. There is a risk of rust, bud mites.
Growing conditions. The variety is unpretentious to growing conditions and climate, winter-hardy, tolerates drought well. Therefore, it is suitable for cultivation in most regions of the Russian Federation, including areas with unstable and cold climates.
