The blueberry of this variety was bred by breeders of the state of Maryland (USA) in 1952 by cross-pollination of Dixi, Michigan LB-1 and Earliblue varieties. For the first time, the variety entered the market in 1976, and was named "Patriot"; in honor of the 200th anniversary of the unification of the states.

Variety features
Plant. Tall – 1.6-1.8 m, erect, not strongly branched. The leaves are oval-elongated. Young leaves have a reddish tint, which eventually turns into a dark green. Blueberry flowers – white, domed with «terry» edges. During the flowering period, the plant looks very impressive and becomes a real decoration of the garden.
Fruits "Patriot" large, flattened-round shape, 1.5-2 cm in diameter. The skin of ripe berries is light blue, elastic. Pulp — green, juicy, sweet.
Blueberries do not crumple and do not flow when harvested, they lend themselves well to tearing. Suitable for manual and mechanized assembly. Ripe berries stay on the branches for up to 10-15 days.
Designation of the variety: Blueberry fruits «Patriot» well stored, can be transported, frozen / thawed. Berry makes delicious desserts, jams, compotes, syrups.
Productivity and ripening terms. Blueberry Patriot is a high-yielding variety, 7-9 kg of berries are harvested from one plant per season. The bushes give the maximum yield for 5-6 years of growth.

Growing conditions. Blueberry Patriot is a frost-resistant variety. Withstands temperatures up to –35-40°C, endures frosts, adapts to any climate, bears fruit in northern regions with short daylight hours.
Not whimsical "Patriot" and soil composition. It is important that it be slightly acidic (pH 3.5-5.0), loose, well drained. As a nutrient supplement to the soil, acidic high-moor peat is ideal.
Patriot – self-fertile, i.e. able to set berries without cross-pollination. But with a richer harvest, he will please those who plant other varieties of blueberries next to them that bloom at the same time.
Selection of seedlings
Before you buy Patriot blueberry seedlings, pay attention to the quality of the planting material.
- The age of suitable seedlings is 2-3 years,
- The root system – developed, moist, without breaks. Preferably closed type (with a clod of earth).
- The shoots are "alive", without dryness, damage and signs of disease.
