Thuja western Fastigiata (Fastigiata)

Crown: columnar

Needles: dark green, dense

Frost resistance: high

Zoning: temperate continental climate

Origin: North America

Thuja western Fastigiata (Fastigiata) – evergreen shrub of North American origin, belongs to the cypress family. I ended up in Europe in the 16th century thanks to Spanish navigators.

Variety advantages: attractive appearance, winter hardiness.

Appearance. A tall tree, up to 15 meters in height (in Russia – up to 6-8 m.), grows annually by 30 cm. Crown – columnar, consists of branches tightly pressed to the trunk, covered with soft, green fragrant needles. Root system – compact, does not grow. Cones – small, brown, almost invisible on the tree.

Destination. Tall, slender trees with a dense crown planted in a row often replace artificial fences. A thuja hedge not only decorates the site, but also hides it from prying eyes, protects it from wind and dust. Tui growing singly and surrounded by flowering plants also look spectacular.

Growing conditions. Western thuja Fastigiata – winter-hardy, sun-loving plant. Feels good in open lighted areas and in partial shade. Prefers loamy fertile soils. Loves moisture.

Beware of fakes and infected planting material, purchase thuja "Fastigiata" in specialized nurseries.
