Improved remontant variety of yellow raspberry «Anna» was bred by American breeders, and fell in love with Russian gardeners for its good yield, marketable appearance and unsurpassed – sweet with hints of exotic fruits – taste and aroma of berries.
Varie Features
Anna's bushes compact, low – 1.2-1.8 m., however, they need a garter due to a heavy crop. Raspberry leaves are carved, curly. The stems are covered with rare, small thorns, which are practically invisible and do not cause inconvenience when picking berries.
The fruits of "Anna" pale yellow color, obtuse shape, rather large – the average weight is 5-8 grams. Raspberry pulp is juicy, taste – sweet, with hints of banana. Due to the dense structure, the berry does not flow and keeps its shape well during harvesting and transportation. Ripe raspberries do not fall off the branches.
The variety Anna is universal in its purpose. Suitable for sale and fresh consumption. It tolerates freezing and thawing well. Thanks to the exquisite taste and aroma, from the berries of "Anna" tasty compotes, jams and other canning products are obtained. In addition, most varieties of yellow raspberries, including "Anna", are allowed to be used by people who are allergic to anthocyanins (substances contained in the red berry).
Repair raspberry "Anna" ripens quite early, the beginning of fruiting falls in June. At the same time, the ripening of berries is extended, the crop is harvested in several approaches. Subject to agricultural technology and proper care for the season, the bush gives 4-6 kg of ripe fruits. Fruiting zone – the upper quarter of the length of the shoot.
Planting and care
In general, the raspberry variety "Yellow Anna" unpretentious and adapted to any growing conditions. Frost- and drought-resistant, with developed immunity to root rot, but at the same time subject to verticillium wilt.
Basic requirements for growing and caring for "Anna" do not differ from most varieties of garden and industrial raspberries and depend on the region.
Landing. For planting raspberries, choose a sunny area without drafts and stagnant moisture. It is important that raspberries and crops of the nightshade family, tomato, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, etc. do not grow on it before.
The ground for "Anna" choose loamy or sandy loamy, with weak or neutral acidity. Before planting, the site is dug up with the addition of rotted manure, ash and superphosphate to the ground. They will make the soil on the site more fertile.
Raspberries are planted in autumn before the first frosts, in September-early October. B in southern latitudes, landing is carried out in the spring.
For the formation of landings, a tape or cluster method is chosen, depending on the size and capabilities of the site. Holes or trenches are dug with a depth-width of 60 × 60 cm. Keeping a distance of 1-1.5 m between them.
Raspberry seedlings «Anna» placed in prepared recesses, sprinkled with earth and watered abundantly. So that the branches do not bend to the ground under the weight of the crop, and the plants have enough light and air, the bushes must be tied up with trellises or in a fan way.
Water. Despite the fact that the variety tolerates heat well (the berry does not bake or shrink), the plant needs timely watering. Raspberries are watered abundantly during flowering, ovary formation and fruiting. At the same time, attention is paid to the amount of precipitation. In damp rainy weather, watering is reduced. In a dry hot summer – increase. After watering, the ground around the bush is loosened and mulched, so the soil "breathes" and retains moisture longer. In autumn, after harvesting and before the onset of cold weather, raspberries are also watered abundantly.
Feeding. Raspberry responds gratefully to nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus. In the first year after planting, the plants are fed according to the scheme: 1 time – in May, 2 times – two weeks later, 3 times – after 4.5 months. In subsequent seasons, only spring top dressing with a solution of urea is left. In autumn, manure is brought under the root; it is enough to enrich the soil once every two years.
Cutting. The autumn method of pruning remontant raspberries depends on which growing option is chosen. 1 option – on the principle of summer raspberries. In this case, two-year shoots are cut off at the end of the season. Option 2 – according to the principle of a remontant variety, absolutely the entire above-ground part is cut out. Raspberries "Anna", as a rule, are grown in the second way, because. the variety successfully winters and bears fruit early.
In the spring, they carry out repeated sanitary pruning – remove frozen weak shoots. The remaining healthy stems are cut from above to the first healthy bud – 15-20 cm.
Preparing for winter. After autumn pruning, the stems remaining in the second year are removed from the garter, collected in bunches and bent to the ground. At the same time, a distance of 40 cm is left to its surface. Rich snow cover will protect plants from freezing, and in areas with little snow, unpredictable or very frosty winters, raspberries are additionally covered with straw or agrofibre.
