Tadmor – New Zealand variety of non-remontant raspberries of late ripening, with large berries of the highest quality. Late ripening (August) – the undoubted advantage of the variety, because at this time the berry markets are empty, and in the absence of competition, farmers can sell the raspberry crop faster and more expensive.
Varie Features
Raspberry shoots are high, 1.8-2.3 m, medium-sized, thorns are few, soft. The bush gives many replacement shoots. Leaves – flat sparse, which makes it easier to care for and harvest.
The fruits of Tadmor are large (weight 7-9 gr., length - up to 4 cm), bright red, elongated conical shape. The pulp of the berries is juicy, the taste is sweet with sourness, the aroma – delicate crimson.
Raspberry drupes are dense, well linked. The variety does not flow, does not wrinkle, is suitable for mechanical harvesting. In addition, Tadmor tolerates transportation well, the berries retain their marketable appearance up to 4 days after picking.
Other grade advantages:
- High yield – up to 3 kg per bush.
- Frost resistance – well tolerates late frosts and frosts down to -30 ° C without shelter. In hot dry weather, the berries do not shrink. Therefore, the variety «Tadmor» ideal for cultivation in almost all regions of Russia.
- Resistance to fungal and viral diseases (gray rot and downy dwarfism, etc.).
Planting and care
Landing. Seedlings are planted in autumn or spring. choose a sunny site, without drafts, with neutral or slightly acidic soil.
Seedlings are planted in separate bushes or rows. To do this, draw holes and trenches with a depth of 0.4-0.5 m, leaving a distance: between the holes – 0.7-1.0 m., between rows – 2 m. The interval between seedlings in the trench method is 50-70 cm. Before planting, the holes are filled with a nutrient composition of compost and ash, and the roots of the seedlings are kept in a mixture for root formation for a day.
When planting, each seedling is sprinkled with soil and watered abundantly. It is important that the root the neck of the plant was level with the ground. If the soil on the site is mulched, it will better retain moisture and prevent the formation of a dry crust on the surface of the soil, which blocks the access of oxygen to the roots.
Tadmor bushes tall, so they need a garter to the trellis. So the ripening of the crop will be more uniform, and there will be enough sun and air for each bush.
Water. The variety loves moisture, while its stagnation and excess does not tolerate it well. Raspberries need abundant watering in spring, when young bushes are strengthening, during flowering, berry development, and, of course, in hot, dry weather. If the summer turned out to be rainy, then the raspberries, as a rule, are not watered.
In order for the soil to better retain moisture, remain porous and breathable, and the roots of the plant do not overheat, plantings are mulched with freshly cut grass, straw, sawdust.
Feeding. To obtain a consistently high-quality crop, the Tadmor variety fertilize in spring and autumn. In the spring, organic matter is used – a solution of compost or bird droppings. In autumn, they are watered with an infusion of ash. Fertilizers with nitrogen are applied in the spring, when the shoots are no more than 15 cm tall, then two months later. Raspberries will need potassium during the period of ovary and fruit formation. Phosphorus – before laying the mother liquor.
Cutting. In autumn, two-year-old shoots that bear fruit are completely cut off. All leaves are removed from the young, and the stems are shortened by a third, leaving no more than 3-5 buds. In the spring, sanitary pruning of frozen, weak and damaged shoots during the winter is carried out.
Preparing for winter. Before the first frost, raspberries are removed from the trellises. The young shoots remaining after pruning are bent to the ground. To avoid freezing of the root system, it is advisable to mulch the soil, especially in regions with a small amount of snow cover. In regions with cold winters, raspberries are additionally insulated with covering material.
